Brahms Requiem and Szymanowski Stabat Mater

Melbourne Bach Choir celebrates its 20th anniversary in partnership with Zelman Symphony, in a concert that celebrates life through the creative perspectives of two of the most significant European Romantic composers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Brahms’ ‘humanist requiem’ emphasizes comfort and solace for the living, paired with Szymanowski’s 1926 Polish ‘people’s’ Requiem’. And Brahms’ Nänie beautifully laments loss, whilst celebrating how we honour those we have loved.

This concert promises many highlights; celebrating MBC’s 20th anniversary, the 100th anniversary of the first performance of Stabat Mater, also performed by Helena Dix, Belinda Paterson and Warwick Fyfe in Polish for the first time, and emerging conductor Jessica Zuk leading Brahms’ Nänie, with both orchestra and choir together, also for the first time.

With Melbourne Bach Choir and Zelman Symphony sounding better than ever, and three world class soloists, this will be one of those ‘not to be missed’ events.
