Affinity Quartet – Incantation

Affinity Quartet – Incantation

Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre

Details

Award-winning ensemble Affinity Quartet returns to Melbourne Recital Centre to present three profoundly moving works from the 18th century to the present.

Considered a groundbreaking work from the moment it premiered in 1893, Debussy’s only string quartet, with its shimmering textures and innovative harmonies, transports audiences to an impressionistic world. A defining moment in chamber music, Debussy left an undeniable mark on future composers including French-born Héloïse Werner.

Described as ‘a composer of subtle imagination’ (Gramophone), Werner’s Incantation in Four Parts blurs the boundaries between the four instrumentalists to take listeners on a journey of play and discovery. In this Melbourne premiere, presented alongside the emotional depths of Mozart’s Adagio and Fugue in C minor, Affinity Quartet showcase their impressive performance prowess described by critics as ‘flawless’ (Limelight).
