Details
Witness the living legends of gospel music.
The Blind Boys of Alabama are recognised worldwide as living legends of gospel music. Celebrated by The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) with Lifetime Achievement Awards, inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, and winners of five GRAMMY® Awards, they have attained the highest levels of achievement in a career spanning over 70 years.
Known for transcending musical boundaries, their remarkable interpretations resonate with a power that’s unmistakably their own. From timeless gospel favourites to the spiritual and contemporary works of songwriters such as Eric Clapton, Prince, and Tom Waits, experience soul-stirring harmonies and ‘gutsy improvisations that leap heavenward’ (The New York Times). Having collaborated with luminaries including Lou Reed, Stevie Wonder, Bonnie Raitt, and many more, their electrifying performances have graced some of the most iconic stages on television, from The Tonight Show to The Colbert Report. In this joyous and uplifting occasion befitting of Melbourne Recital Centre’s 15th birthday celebrations, witness what critics have lauded as an experience ‘that reaches across decades, belief systems and genres’ (Relix).
