Duo Eclettico & Helen Morse – A Trillion Tiny Awakenings

Duo Eclettico & Helen Morse

Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre & Duo Eclettico

Details

Duo Eclettico and iconic Australian actor Helen Morse present three groundbreaking works for classical saxophone and piano.

Award-winning Duo Eclettico returns to the stage to explore the wealth of repertoire available for their distinct combination of instruments–saxophone and piano. Passionate about unearthing complex, vibrant repertoire and commissioning new works, particularly from local artists, the pair will perform three groundbreaking works in this intimate Salon experience.

Joined by the iconic Australian actor Helen Morse, witness the world premiere of Linda Kouvaras’ Harwood Poems, an extraordinary composition for saxophone, piano, and narrator. A poignant celebration of revered Australian poet Gwen Harwood, this piece beautifully captures the striking paradoxes of the human experience with stark intimacy. Composed especially for Duo Eclettico and Helen Morse, this concert is perfectly paired with two major works. From Ned Rorem’s vividly evocative seven waltzes in Picnic on the Marne to Cheryl Durongpisitkul’s moving homage to the late Australian poet and activist, Candy Royalle, in A Trillion Tiny Awakenings, this thought-provoking exploration of powerful storytelling for saxophone, piano, and narrator is not to be missed.

With generous support from Creative Victoria and City of Melbourne Quick Response Grant for Linda Kouvaras’ Harwood Poems.

‘If there is a concert that one would describe as perfect, this one had to be in the mix. Internationally recognised Australian musicians Coady Green (piano) and Justin Kenealy (saxophones) make a perfect duo…’ – Classic Melbourne
