Woven Threads

Woven Threads

Presented by Melbourne Chamber Orchestra

Details

For her first orchestral concert as MCO’s artistic director, Sophie Rowell invites you to revel in the power and possibilities of the string orchestra.

We start with the majesty and eloquence of Bach — a single strand of sound that unfolds into a miniature universe. And we end with Sophie as soloist, in the dazzling youthful Mendelssohn Concerto in D minor.

In between, we weave together through time and place, tracing rich connections on three continents in four centuries. We thread together Melody Eötvös’ Meraki, inspired by a Greek word meaning to perform with soul, creativity and love; a musical firework by American genius Coleridge Perkinson; a dash of theatrical Mozart; and a love letter to Tchaikovsky.

Melbourne Chamber Orchestra is a Key Presenting Partner at Melbourne Recital Centre. For more information on the Centre’s Key Presenting Partners see here.
