Tenzin Choegyal

Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre and Tenzin Choegyal & Phoenix Collective Quartet

Details

An evocative portrayal of the majestic landscape and traditions of Tibet.

Tenzin Choegyal is a Tibetan/Australian artist, composer, activist, musical director and cultural ambassador. While proudly continuing the unbroken nomadic lineage which is central to his music, Tenzin also embraces opportunities to take his music into more contemporary, uncharted territory, both in the studio and on stage.

Phoenix Collective is one of Australia’s most versatile and dynamic ensembles. Known for their innovative approach and fervency for collaboration, they have become a fixture of the musical landscape in Australia.

About the concert

Their performance in Primrose Potter Salon takes audiences on a mystical journey through Tibet. Energetic, expressive, profound and at times reflective, Tenzin draws on his nomadic roots to lead the audience through musical works both traditional and new.

Tenzin’s powerful vocals and Tibetan instruments are complimented by the beautiful sounds of Phoenix Collective’s classical strings. The resulting music is an evocative portrayal of the majestic landscape and traditions of Tibet.

Praise for Tenzin Choegyal

‘Tibetan musician Tenzin Choegyal was equally impressive, as much for his infectious smile as for his powerful and wonderful voice.’ Billboard Magazne
