Nomads Like Us – BABY UNIVERSE

Nomads Like Us

Presented by Christina Higham and Victoria Cotta

Details

A departure from the expected, Nomads Like Us takes audiences on a moving and transcendent journey of instrumental storytelling.

Neo-romantic meets Jazz as pianist/composers Christina Higham and Victoria Cotta present their new work for two pianos and two cellos, BABY UNIVERSE. Together with cellists Anita Quayle and Ffion Stoakes and conducted by an original film – the fifth member of this ensemble Nomads Like Us’ artistic vision comes to life in the Primrose Potter Salon.

The evolution of Nomads Like Us’ multi-award-winning work for two pianos, BABY UNIVERSE unites classical composition and free improvisation with moving images to create an immersive multi-sensory live music experience.

Victoria and Christina’s evocative compositions draw influence from Impressionist classical composers Debussy and Ravel, as well as the sound worlds of vaudeville and classic film music. Rich in musical diversity, the quartet skillfully traverse a realm between genres, unearthing a depth of feeling that guides the listener into sensitive and emotional spaces. At the heart of Nomad’s creative practice is a style of composition and performance that manifests freedom of expression; celebrated among the ensemble in their performance.

This special event will utilise the Centre’s two grand pianos to host an evening of intricate, textured and emotive live performance, as pianos and cellos join forces and a beautiful story unfolds.

Nomads Like Us – BABY UNIVERSE is supported by the City of Melbourne Arts Grants 2023.
