Michael Jordan – AIM

Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre & Michael Jordan

Details

A profound and vast exploration of melodic drumming.

Drummer and composer Michael Jordan plays with an understated confidence and compelling warmth. His non-traditional bassless jazz trio format features internationally celebrated improvisers and leading Australian jazz figure Barney McAII on piano, and equally prolific and exemplary Julien Wilson featured on saxophone, bass clarinet, clarinet and electronics.

About the concert

Their performance in Primrose Potter Salon celebrates the release of AIM. The melodic trio materials written by Jordan will be transformed within an improvisatory context in collaboration with Barney and Julien. The dynamic breadth of the works is vast and the sensitivity within the ensemble is enchanting.

A profound and vast exploration of melodic drumming by Jordan has led him to create this body of work. His unique approach to contemporary drumming features a fixed-pitch tuned drum-set and carefully selected cymbals that – when combined – create a sympathetic resonance that define the composition’s melodic shape and contour.
