Laura Jean presents Amateurs
Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre in arrangement with Select Music
Details
Deep, warmhearted and sonically breathtaking.
Eora/Sydney songwriter Laura Jean launches her acclaimed new album Amateurs in Elisabeth Murdoch Hall with a full band and string section.
Laura Jean is revered for the striking beauty of her music and the strength of her piercing, intimate lyrics. Amateurs is a stunning, string-laden album, set at a mystical midway point between the deep synth-pop of Laura’s previous album Devotion (2018) and the folkier sounds of her earlier work. Produced by Tim Bruniges with string arrangement by Erkki Veltheim (Gurrumul, Archie Roach), the album is deep, warmhearted and sonically breathtaking.
Amateurs is an album about anti-art and anti-intellectual culture in Australia. It sees Laura questioning her role as a songwriter and examining the reality of her choices to prioritise art over other parts of her life.
With Special Guests
Laura Jean will be supported by Carissa Nyalu.
