Alexander Gavrylyuk – International Classics 2023

Alexander Gavrylyuk

Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre

Details

A riveting evening of Romantic masterworks for piano.

Ukrainian born, Australian pianist Alexander Gavrylyuk is internationally celebrated for his electrifying and poetic performances. Following enthralling performances at the Centre in 2016 and 2017, Gavrylyuk returns to Elisabeth Murdoch Hall to showcase dramatic and impassioned Romantic piano repertoire by Beethoven, Schumann, Chopin, Liszt, Brahms and Saint-Saëns.

About the concert

His curated program of music spotlights formidable composer/performers at the forefront of technique and showmanship in the Romantic era and their determination to push musical boundaries. In this concert, Gavrylyuk will exhibit his own remarkable technique in interpretations of musical masterworks that transport audiences from Beethoven’s dark and dreamy Moonlight Sonata and the melting romance of Chopin’s Nocturne to the spectacle of Liszt’s Tarantella, Schumann’s characterful Scenes from Childhood and ruminations of Brahms’ intermezzos.

A frequent concert guest, soloist and recitalist, highlights of Alexander Gavrylyuk’s recent season include debuts with San Diego Symphony, Dallas Symphony, Bergen Philharmonic, Rheinische Philharmonie and Antwerp Symphony Orchestras, as well as return visits to Chicago Symphony, Sydney Symphony, New Mexico Philharmonic and Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestras.

Don’t miss the opportunity to bear witness to ‘the most compelling pianist of his generation’ (Limelight magazine).

Praise for Alexander Gavrylyuk

‘Alexander Gavrylyuk is, easily, the most compelling pianist of his generation. As Schumann said of Chopin: “Hats off gentlemen, a genius.”’ Limelight magazine

‘Beyond technical prowess, he has an extraordinary mastery over time, stretching and pushing it in service to the music.’ Limelight magazine
