Calling little ears and big imaginations: get ready for a music-fuelled adventure at Melbourne Recital Centre.
Melbourne Recital Centre's trademark school holiday program Mini Music Lovers is transforming the venue into a magical musical playground during the summer holidays.
Held across two days in January 2025, the festival promises an array of interactive performances, workshops, and activities designed to ignite young imaginations and introduce children to the wonder of live music.
"Our January Mini Music Lovers program is more than just a festival - it's a gateway to the enchanting world of music for our youngest audiences," says Marshall McGuire, Director of Programming. "We've curated a program that combines entertainment, education, and pure joy, ensuring an unforgettable experience for families."
The festival showcases an exciting array of beloved children's performers for all ages. ARIA-nominated Zindzi & The Zillionaires bring their infectious energy with a joyful blend of RnB, hip hop and rap. Performing with her fluffy friends, Zindzi shares upbeat songs from their self-titled album that celebrate friendship, confidence, and positivity.
Venture into Woody's World for an interactive musical adventure where Woody's Bush Cabaret blends music, puppetry, theatre, and signature ukulele playing in a show where everyone gets a chance to shine. Elisabeth Murdoch Hall transforms into an unforgettable day-doof disco as pop duo Turtle and Sugar Rush from All The Queens Men lead the ultimate dance party, exploring stories of identity, body positivity, and the power of imagination.
The enchantment continues with Inventi Ensemble's spellbinding interactive performance of Cinderella, weaving together Prokofiev's timeless tale with Australian composer Sally Whitwell's captivating composition. For tech-savvy young creators, Mobile MESS (Ages 7-12) offers a hands-on workshop exploring the magic of electronic sound creation. Guided by the Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio Team, participants will experiment with synthesizers and drum machines while discovering how electricity creates music - no musical experience necessary.
Young conductors will be able to jump on stage, grab the baton, wave the arms and cue the strings as they lead their very own musical ensemble 'Conduct Us' in a live performance.
Throughout the day, families can enjoy face painting, and a photo booth to capture magical moments. There will also be designated quiet zones for feeding and relaxation, convenient pram parking, and a variety of food options.
Mini Music Lovers will take place at Melbourne Recital Centre from Wednesday 22 - Thursday 23 January.
