Melbourne Recital Centre (MRC) today announced that Marshall McGuire, Director of Programming, will conclude his tenure in February 2025, after over nearly a decade of artistic leadership.
McGuire has been key in cementing MRC's position as a premier destination for local, national and international artists and music-makers overseeing numerous achievements including establishing the influential Artist in Residence program, and delivering the acclaimed 10th anniversary celebrations in 2019.
During his tenure, McGuire's commitment to artistic diversity and community engagement fundamentally shaped the Centre's programming. He championed the expansion of First Nations programming and spearheaded the Learning and Access program, creating lasting impact across Victorian communities.
His swift response during the 2020-22 pandemic, including the launch of digital concert series and artist support initiatives, demonstrated his unwavering commitment to the artistic community.
Melbourne Recital Centre CEO Sandra Willis praised McGuire's contribution: 'Marshall has led with heart, passion and artistic proficiency, while building and nurturing meaningful relationships with our diverse community of artists, donors, audiences and more. While he will be deeply missed, we look forward to watching him return to the stage as the ARIA Award-winning harpist he is, as well as pursuing other creative projects.'
Chair Andrea Hull AO added, 'On behalf of the Board, I extend my sincere thanks to Marshall for his dedication and contribution to MRC over an impressive term. It has been a pleasure to serve as both board and audience member during his time as Director of Programming.' McGuire reflected on his time at the Centre: 'It has been a great privilege to work for Melbourne Recital Centre. Being at the heart of music making in Melbourne for nearly a decade has given me an extraordinary opportunity to get to know and appreciate musicians from all backgrounds and styles. The dedicated way the Centre supports musicians has brought me immeasurable joy.'
McGuire's last day at Melbourne Recital Centre will be Friday 14 February 2025. He will continue his role as Chair of the Australian Music Centre. Information regarding interim arrangements will be announced shortly.
