Melbourne Recital Centre reveals an exceptional 2025 program of international classical sensations and dynamic contemporary acts, including Matthias Goerne, Freiberg Baroque Orchestra, RY X, Rufus Wainwright and much more.

Melbourne Recital Centre invites music-lovers to dare to discover in 2025 with a world-class self-presented program spanning the realms of classical and contemporary music, featuring a diverse blend of stunning debuts and discoveries through to familiar favourites and timeless tempos.

Melbourne Recital Centre's CEO Sandra Willis said the 2025 program was thoughtfully curated to deliver a range of unforgettable experiences for all ages and musical interests, centred on discovery, connection and togetherness.

"The extraordinary breadth and diversity of this year's program exemplifies our unwavering dedication to showcasing exceptional music across all genres. Music and storytelling are not just performances here; they are transformative experiences that resonate with the very essence of human emotion and creativity. When you immerse yourself in the Centre's offerings, you'll depart with a profound understanding of why music is a universal language."

In 2025, music-lovers will delight in two standout Signature Events. In March, the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra present an exhilarating exploration through the Baroque and Classical eras, with piano virtuoso Kristian Bezuidenhout and Australia's sparkling soprano Siobhan Stagg. In November, The Tallis Scholars will weave their way through a millennium of sacred music in two awe-inspiring vocal performances.

Director of Programming Marshall McGuire said, "Our 2025 program celebrates timeless compositions alongside visionary contemporary composers and outstanding performers. Throughout the year, our stages will be filled with talented performers, composers, and innovators at the very forefront of their craft. Whether people are visiting us for the first or fiftieth time, everyone is set for a remarkable live music experience with us."

The 2025 program opens in February with Cradle of Life, an exploration of our time shared with Mother Earth, by Bundjalung/Lama Lama spoken word artist Tamala Shelton and Tibetan/Australian musician Tenzin Choegyal, followed by an unmissable Valentine's Day performance by The Balanas Sisters - a Latvian duo who have carved out a reputation as two of the most exciting artists of their generation.

Classical highlights include baritone Matthias Goerne singing Schubert's Winterreise with pianist Daniil Trifonov, Genesis Baroque with star soprano Sara Macliver, violinist Daniel Lozakovich, pianist Sir Stephen Hough, Renaissance ensemble La Compañia, pianist Benjamin Grosvenor, and cellist Daniel Müller-Schott with pianist Konstantin Shamray. Plus, award-winning string ensembles Quartz and Affinity Quartet, and violinist Clara-Jumi Kang with Baroque quartet Latitude 37 in a Dynamic Double Set, the Centre's curated double bill concert experience.

In celebration of Jane Austen's 250th birthday, Rachael Beesley, pianist Aura Go and Lizzy Bennet's Band return with a presentation of music from the beloved authors time, for Jane Austen - Pemberley Revisited.

Platforming global women in music, diverse all-female a cappella groups Nobuntu and Sjaella take the Elisabeth Murdoch Hall stage, while the Primrose Potter Salon becomes the vehicle for an evocative exploration of women's power from acclaimed Australian composer Liza Lim in Sex Magic, a not-to-be-missed kinetic performance by Brooklyn-based boundary-breaking instrumentalist Claire Chase.

The much-loved matinee and morning tea concert series with the Australian National Academy of Music, Mostly Mozart returns, and so too does the Centre's kids and families program under the new name Mini Music-Lovers featuring Play Date with All The Queens Men, Zindzi and the Zillionaires, Woody's Bush Cabaret, Cinderella with Inventi Ensemble and more.

These acts and artists join the recently announced line-up of ethereal indie vocalist/instrumentalist RY X who has chosen Elisabeth Murdoch Hall to be the home of his first Melbourne performance in over a decade, iconic singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright, Katie Noonan and Karin Schaupp who reunite and return to their acclaimed Southern Skies catalogue, soulful GRAMMY Award winner Allison Russell and powerful pianist Hania Rani who returns to perform her 2023 album Ghosts; and more.
