Jasper Ly and Peter Dumsday – TENERA

A celebration of trailblazing women composers.
Join Melbourne musicians Jasper Ly (oboe) and Peter Dumsday (piano) for TENERA, a journey through time celebrating the legacy of women composers. As advocates for new Australian music, Ly and Dumsday bring their musical sensitivity and dynamic performance styles to this powerful program.
Featuring works by contemporary Australian composers, including Nat Bartsch, Jessica Wells, Laura Abraham, and Helen Gifford, each offering a distinctive voice and approach to the modern landscape. Their compositions are presented alongside seminal works by groundbreaking women pioneers such as Clara Schumann, Amy Beach, Lili Boulanger, and Marina Dranishnikova, all of whom have left indelible marks on Western classical music.
This performance explores the depth, complexity, and beauty inherent in these underrepresented voices and seeks to shed light on the enduring legacies of women who have shaped the course of music. By blending the past and present, TENERA illuminates the timeless relevance of these composers and their vital role in the future of instrumental music.
'It’s hard to capture with language the way their concert made me, and the rest of the sold-out audience feel, but I am certain that we all experienced a thoughtful, thought-provoking and not-soon-forgotten performance, that transcended its individual pieces and left us all feeling a little glow.' – Limelight Magazine
