Nightingale

Baroque and modern treasures in an explosion of colour and energy.

Harpsichordist Donald Nicolson brings an infectious enthusiasm and a sparkling musicality to everything he does. This program sees him take centre stage, both as guest director from the keyboard and as the soloist in Bach’s stunning first harpsichord concerto.

This is a wonderful opportunity to experience a range of MCO players and instruments up close. Our own Emma Sullivan features in one of the most famous double bass sonatas from the Baroque period, and the violin section comes to the fore in Corelli’s dynamic Concerto Grosso.

The more modern works featured here include a hidden gem written by Colin Brumby and a new commission from exciting Melbourne composer, Melody Eötvös.
