Musette

Celebrating the cello and one of its great players.

We’re delighted to welcome back cellist Li-Wei Qin for Haydn’s beautiful Concerto in C and a fabulous French bonbon by Françaix. A world-renowned soloist, Li-Wei’s playing is distinguished by his glorious tone and commanding technique.

Written for MCO Artistic Director Sophie Rowell, the first piece on the program reworks very familiar themes from the notebook of Anna Magdalena Bach, who was the copyist of her husband’s Cello Suites.

A cellist himself, Boccherini’s dramatic Symphony, ‘The Devil’s House’, is the perfect way to finish this concert that is truly all about the cello.
