Sound Insights offers learners the opportunity to hear violin syllabus favourites performed by AMEB examiner and concert performer Markiyan Melnychenko. Experience engaging discussions about the pieces, insights from AMEB composer Karen Kyriakou, and valuable advice designed to assist and inspire developing musicians.

About the Artists
Markiyan Melnychenko
Ukrainian-Australian violinist Markiyan Melnychenko CF has been described as ‘an artist of patrician sensibility, spectacular technique’, and ‘possessing an extraordinary combination of bravura, brains and elegance’. He has served as Principal 1st Violin with the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra and Lecturer in Violin at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, where he is currently completing a PhD with a focus on Ukrainian violin music.
Karen Kyriakou
Karen Kyriakou’s work as an educator, presenter, and composer/arranger is underpinned by her passion for music’s capacity to unite and inspire. She is in demand as a presenter and workshop facilitator with many of Australia’s leading arts organisations, and is currently engaged with the MSO, ANAM, Musica Viva Australia, QSO and MCO to write and deliver educational programs. A staunch advocate of lifelong learning, she delivers professional learning seminars to teachers of all levels of skill and experience, and regularly presents at industry conferences, championing creative music making and inclusive music education.
