Tamala Shelton & Tenzin Choegyal – Cradle of Life

Tenzin Choegyal & Tamala Shelt

Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre & Play On

Details

An avant-garde exploration of our time shared with Mother Earth.

In this world premiere performance of Cradle of Life, Bundjalung/Lama Lama spoken word artist Tamala Shelton and Tibetan/Australian musician Tenzin Choegyal lead an immersive and poetic intimate sound experience.

A celebration of Mother Earth’s beauty, and an exploration of what stands to be lost due to the climate crisis, both Tamala and Tenzin share their deep concern for the future of the planet. Both passionate climate activists, Tamala and Tenzin met through the late Uncle Archie Roach AO, and following his passing came together for a spoken word rendition of his unreleased song, Cradle of Life.

With Tenzin’s vocals and Tamala’s poetry at the helm and joined by Gunditjmara/Kirrae Wurrung/Bundjalung yidaki player Lionel Lauch, acclaimed Australian composer and violinist Erkki Veltheim, and more, Cradle of Life explores themes of colonialism, capitalism, patriarchy, and lust for power, and how all these systems have ultimately failed us.
