Genesis Baroque with Sara Macliver – Songs of Rest and Renewal

Sara Macliver

Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre & Genesis Baroque

Details

A heartfelt program of soul-nourishing compositions explores love in both human and divine forms.

Following a sold-out Melbourne Recital Centre debut in 2024, Genesis Baroque return to the Primrose Potter Salon for a collaboration with one of Australia’s favourite sopranos, Sara Macliver.

Believed to have been composed as a celebration of marriage, J.S. Bach’s Weichet nur, betrübte Schatten opens amidst a frosty atmosphere. Shortly after, thoughts of spring and love rise culminating in a joyous French gavotte in which Sara Macliver’s voice will dance throughout the Primrose Potter Salon.

The elegance of George Frideric Handel’s Trio Sonata in C minor begins this hour-long voyage through the spectrum of passion and love, with Henry Purcell’s An Evening Hymn concluding the evening and leaving audiences with music piercing their soul.

Praise for Genesis Baroque

‘Genesis Baroque… could scarcely be more impressive. They produce a rich, sonorous sound, disciplined ensemble and a beautifully nuanced mutual understanding…’ – Sydney Morning Herald
