Details
John Grant performs his most opulent, cinematic, and luxurious album yet.
Michigan-born singer-songwriter John Grant returns to the stage with his critically acclaimed album, The Art of The Lie. Renowned for his emotionally raw and confessional storytelling, Grant masterfully blends sumptuous ballads with taut, electrifying pop, effortlessly traversing the realms of symphony orchestras and synthesisers. Now based in Iceland, his self-effacing lyrics delve into dark, introspective spaces, revealing profound humanity.
In autumn 2022, inspired by his collaboration with producer Ivor Guest, Grant began crafting his most opulent album yet, The Art of The Lie. Featuring a cast of celebrated musicians, this cinematic work weaves dramatic soundscapes reminiscent of the lush Vangelis score for Blade Runner — or the Carpenters if John Carpenter were also a member. With a keen sense for lyrical ingenuity, Grant artfully explores the complexities of life, blending humour and depth to illuminate both its dark and light sides.
Praise for John Grant
‘Eloquent and erudite… The Art of The Lie is a rich and dense record that rewards repeated, attentive listening… Yet despite the lyrical prowess on display, it’s the incredibly detailed soundscape that really impresses… Grant is well on the way to creating a musical language all his own.’ – Record Collector
‘An eclectic, ambitious, and vital return from a one-off talent… The Art of The Lie is a perfect distillation of everything one yearns for in John Grant’s music; his golden baritone voice, icy electronic soundscapes, emotive balladry, sumptuous funk and phenomenal diction all remain intact on yet another fabulous album.’ – Clash
