Hoang Pham in Recital

Hoang Pham performs three masterpieces for solo piano by Beethoven and Liszt.

Beethoven wrote 32 piano sonatas and both the Pathétique and Moonlight remain his most popular of the series. Both of these sonatas were written around the turn of the 19th century and were revolutionary, offering a glimpse into the more emotional and dramatic Romantic period.

Liszt's piano transcription of Wagner's Overture to Tannäuser is one of over fifty operatic paraphrases that Liszt composed in his lifetime. Many of the famous French, Italian and German operas of the 19th century provided a creative canvas for Liszt's reflections at the piano. His Tannhäuser transcription provides a towering virtuoso conclusion to this recital.
