MSO – Metropolis: Composing Australia One
Presented by Melbourne Symphony Orchestra
Details
Showcasing today’s Australian composers who make music that embraces city rhythms and the natural world.
Metropolis kicks off with Holly Harrison’s urban fanfare Hi-Viz in which the neon machine activity of roadworks is re-imagined through electronic dance music, bootscooting and disco!
Look up from the city lights and both Ella Macen’s lyrical The Space Between Stars and Fiona Hill’s yogic breath of a piece Śūnyatā take our attention to the vast expanses of time and space of the natural world.
The MSO is proud to commission Jessica Wells to compose a Guzheng concerto for Mindy Meng Wang, one of the world’s finest players of this Chinese zither.
